4 Irresistible Sports Betting Opportunities This SpringApril 04 2016 04 Apr 2016 3 min. read
This spring is chock-full of sporting events you can promote to your players, if you want to boost your affiliate income. We take a look at some of the best and brightest events, also highlighting some good bets that may go some way to putting everyone in the money.
Golf: The Masters, 7-10 April
The Americans think one of their own has this sown up - either Jason Day or Jordan Spieth depending on who you talk to. It's not that simple, though. As we head into golf's most important individual tournament, any one of about 10 golfers stands a great chance of taking home the Green Jacket... and Augusta is such a challenge that it could be a surprise winner, too.
Golf might not be the main thing you promote on your sports site, but the Masters is a special case, so you ought to give it attention, because of the heat it generates.
Horse Racing: The Grand National, 9 April
It's the biggest and most important event on the UK racing calendar, attracting all the top jump jockeys, trainers and horses from around the world to Aintree for a day of non-stop tension and excitement. However the most important thing about the Grand National from a sports betting point of view is that it's the event when casual bettors mysteriously decide that their skills of prediction are far better than they are in the remainder of the year, and put money on a horse.
Sometimes this is because of discussion around the office water-cooler leading to fun bets being placed; on other occasions it's because of delusion over the level of knowledge required to pick the winner of a horse race. Either way, as an affiliate marketer you ought to take this as your cue to plug the Grand National on your site.
Snooker: World Championship, Starts 16 April
Snooker has exploded in recent years, its global appeal, particularly in the Far East, meaning regular visits to China for its much-traveled players. It's also a natural sell to a poker crowd, taking place in a similar atmosphere, and being a game of psychology and skill at the table. The World Championship has always been held at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre, and this year's edition promises to be hotly-contested. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the bookies' favorite, as much for his past achievements as his current form, but there's a line of young pretenders who may win.
Football: Champions League Final, 28 May
The Champions League is wide open this season, with any one of about four teams harboring serious ambitions of winning, and with Barcelona, last season's champion side, seeming to have exposed a weakness in the weekend defeat to Real Madrid. The competition is still at the quarter-final stage, with matches to be played this week, but you can get good odds on most teams for an outright win, although you might want to advise your players to wait until the semi-final draw before betting.
